The “X” You Won’t Forget
October 15, 2015
Choosing a vehicle is a lot like choosing a spouse. You want good looks but you also want a sense of security. With the all-new 2016 Fiat 500X, you can have both.
The new Fiat 500X marries authentic Italian style with functionality and performance; it’s also scoring points with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), having just been named a 2015 Top Safety Pick+.
The IIHS testing simulates:
- a side impact with a large SUV or pickup truck
- a moderate-offset frontal impact
- a small-offset frontal impact
- roof-crush consistent with a rollover
- a rear collision capable of inducing whiplash
In each test, the 500X earned the highest possible score of “good,” the highest rating from the IIHS.
You can see how the Fiat 500X performed in this crash test video.
The Fiat 500X received the Top Safety Pick+ designation due to its implementation of a Forward Collision Warning-Plus system. Only vehicles equipped with such driver-assist technology may qualify for and IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation. The unique sensor-fusion feature combines camera and radar technologies and when both agree that a frontal collision is imminent, the system activates. Activation begins with audible and visual warnings. If the driver does not respond, brake application occurs autonomously to slow the vehicle before impact. Forward Collision Warning-Plus is available in the Easy trim level and upward and starts at $28,600.
In addition to the Forward Collision Warning-Plus feature, the 500X offers more than 70 available safety and security features including seven air bags, high-strength steel, LaneSense Departure Warning-Plus, Hill-Start Assist and available advanced all-wheel drive system.
